Town Street (Tip)

Town Street was one of two settlements making up Brandon, the other being Ferry Street (High Street), and although the more prominent in its time it became known as ‘Old Brandon’.  Town Street lies to the wet of the parish church, St. Peter’s, and has often been referred to looking like an old Scottish fishing village.

According to 1883 Kelly’s Directory:

  • Henry CURSON – gunflint maker
  • John DODMAN – chimney sweeper
  • Henry HUMPHREYS – shopkeeper
  • Harriet NORTON – shopkeeper
  • Edward SHINN – White Horse (pub)
  • Oswald CARTER – baker
  • Charles FARRANT – Crown Inn (pub)
  • Joseph OLLEY – fishmonger
  • William PRIOR – shopkeeper
  • John ROWELL – shopkeeper
